The current implementation allows linking the video thumbnail only to nodes. Providing a patch that uses entity_uri to get the url for the link.
Also renamed the field formatter thumbnail source selection to say 'content' instead of 'node'.

Updated patch to not change the key for the link_types, as this could potentially cause issues.
