Cells with special characters do not populate table

New Drupal user here so I am not to accustomed to coding and what not. I tried browsing some previous issues on this module and I dont think the issue has been addressed or resolved. In a nutshell, whenever I try to upload a csv file that contains special characters ($, --, / etc) the module will upload all information except for the cells that contain these special characters. There also seems to be other hidden types of characters that cause this to happen as well. I am not sure if there is a patch for this or if the issue has been resolved. However, if there is such a patch or fix could someone explain to me how the patch is applied to the code and where to insert it (again I am a coding novice). Any help is greatly appreciated.
