layouts?
Squalls_Dreams - November 14, 2007 - 18:24
hello I'm new to drupal but I was wondering about this. ok I made my own layout for my website. it has html and php coding, I was wondering if it was possible to add my layout into drupal so it can use that instead but I can also add a login part in there? is this possible?

Sure thing
You can plug Drupal into just about any website you've created. It's much easier now that you have the site already constructed so now it's a matter of plugging in the right code to get it to integrate with Drupal.
Have a look at my brief tutorial as to how to get your design into Drupal: http://nerdliness.com/article/2007/09/10/drupal-theming

So I just add those codes to
So I just add those codes to my index.php file? and then save my index.php file as what ever it was .tpl.php?
So wait, where my logo is already..say
example:
would I remove that and put that logo code in there instead?

It applies to Drupal 5. If a person is just now starting out with Drupal, I would strongly urge them to start with Drupal 5, not Drupal 6. Drupal 6 is still in beta and subject to change.

I'm sorry I forgot which version I had and I just remembered I have drupal 5.3
Do I have to upload my images for my layout in a certain file or what do I do? I'm kinda confused.. Do I replace my index.php file layout coding with that coding in the tutorial? can I post up the coding of my layout and someone fix it so I can see how it is done please?

You didn't read the tutorial.
Check the tutorial and work through it, it has these instructions. It goes in the theme directory. You do not mess with index.php, that is not the theme.
After you read through the tutorial, check out this web cast for more information

I'm having a hard time understanding this..I'll get it I know I will, I'm a newbie at this so this is all confusing. I dont know what files he's talkin about and what not.
alright I have my own webpage its not from drupal or anything. I made it myself and its already up on my website but I'm just trying out drupal and I want to know if I can transfer my index.php/index.html page into drupal? it says stuff about downloading a theme and editing that but thats not what I want to do. I want to transfer my own website into drupal so I dont have to recreate a whole new layout. I'm probably misunderstanding all this but can someone explain a lil more in detail please?
my website is http://johnfisher.myknet.org/bleach/index.php

Yes, you can do what you're describing. The basic idea is that you take your existing index.html, rename it to page.tpl.php, and drop in some Drupal variables like $header, $content, and $footer. The tutorial that was recommended to you will tell you how to do it. So will chapter 8 of Pro Drupal Development, which is an excellent investment. (Chapter 8 used to be available online as a free sample, but I think the publisher has taken it down.)
alright thanks a bunch for
