Did you know that you can install Drush via Homebrew?
Yep...it's as simple as running the following command in terminal:
brew install drush
Granted, this is assuming that you have Homebrew installed. If you do not, you will find that Homebrew will change your life just as Drush has or is about to.
ATTN: Hoping that Drush maintainers would help others out by tossing this on the description page, as I found this method to have worked best for me rather than pear.
Happy Drushing :)

greg.1.anderson commentedI guess the first question is, who is the maintainer, and is it kept up to date?
damiankloip commentedLooks like it's being kept up to date. It will currently install the 8.x-6.0-beta1 release as a default, but as this links the repo, you could do `brew install drush --devel` or `brew install drush --HEAD` to get the current repo.
