This is a mysterious module

Description

I am unable to see what this module actually does as I don't see any specific link for it in the menus. When reading the "getting started", it says to create a new panel and add "taxonomy browser" to it - I simply don't see this option anywhere. I am sure the module is installed (double checked) so does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong?

I have the same problem: I created a panel and I have your module installed. But I don't understand where to find this mystirious "taxonomy browser"? There is no view or block with this name and I can't see any option on my panel.

Same question here, I really can't find it. The module sounds great!

I do not see any configuration option either. It would be nice if the read me of the module has explanation of how to configure and make work the module.

If the module function to a degree it is advertised it is a great module and I really want to use it. But How?

After you create a panel with panels 5.x 2.0 alpha% click on the content tab, and add the taxonomy browser to one of the panes. If installed correctly it should appear under Taxonomy Browser. The problem I'm having is not being able to save my configurations. Good Luck

Can anyone provide Instructions?
This is a mysterious module.
Once installed, there is not clearly anything to do?
I'm in panels, with taxonomies enable and created but there's no way to add a 'taxonomy browser'.
Where should I expect this to appear/be located?

Some notes about Panels Taxonomy with With Panels b1

Using it on a panel where the argument is given from a embedded view which is similar to taxonomy/term/id

In the Panels Context tab I have "Term" as an argument.
In the Panels Context tab I have the view as one pane and now when I add a new pane I can choose "Taxonomy browsers" and pick one of the categorys. The result is similar to "Term context" pane "List of related terms".

Hi,

If ""The result is similar to "Term context" pane "List of related terms".
What is the benefit of this module above using only panels 2 b1?
And could you eleborate your pathauto settings to get term-names working?
Thanks in advance!

greetings,
Martijn

Hello Martijnhaan,

as I am still in development process and relativly new to panels I can't give secure advice or even know for sure if my results are correct. If you feel like you are at a similar point and we could profit from working together please contact me than I can give you the URL to my test site.

However here is what I get from Panels Taxonomy at the moment:
panel title
top term
top term
...
child terms of current taxonomy term
child terms of current taxonomy term
child terms of current taxonomy term

I havn't figured out a way to display something else (like sibling term).

Panels 2b1 is able to display:

Panel Tile
list of Child terms / Related terms / Sibling terms / Top level terms / Term synonyms
Panel Tile
list of Child terms / Related terms / Sibling terms / Top level terms / Term synonyms
Panel Tile
list of Child terms / Related terms / Sibling terms / Top level terms / Term synonyms

/ = or

I will probably not use either at the moment but rather a tree view of the taxonomys of one category and probably display the Sibling terms using Panels b1.

One more note: As far as I know Panels Taxonomy has been developed when Panels itself didn't had above features and the api of panels has chaned alot since then. It seems like the two modules wich are both in development don't play together too well at the moment and there is no possibility to know how they will in future. I am not a php wizard who could fix things easily so I am searching for a different solution.

There is an image of the config options of Panels taxonomy attached to this post.

Hi,

I think Panels_taxonomy then should be brought up-to-speed with Panels Beta1 to be able to get stuff working. Panels Beta1 has lots of new features.
Panels_taxonomy could make advantage of this I think, right?

So I call the panels_taxonomy owner to get in contact with earl's great panels 2 to get panels_taxonomy rocking.
I think that these modules could benefit from each other!

Thanks in advance for considering this.

Martijn

They sure could, but consider this: I am sure edrex would love to add features as well as I would. Now I can't cause I can't propperly code php (yet) and edrex will have his reasons. You can always commit a patch or hire someone to do so.
It's open source! :)

Title:Getting it confirgured» This is a mysterious module

Daryljames: Can you create an issue for this behavior? I seem to recall experiencing some problems with saving. Basically Panels (at least in alpha 7) micromanages the form stuff so that I don't have much control over the behavior. This is a design decision at the panels level, but definitely post an issue in the queue describing the behavior.

Martijnhaan: I completely agree that with the changes to panels' API since August, panels taxonomy would benefit from some updating. I think that a number of new features could be added, the admin ui could be made more intuitive, etc. If a client materializes who can help fund this, I'll be happy to work on it.

Thanks

Also, if this module can be eliminated by merging its features into another module, that would be the best thing.

May be it has to be put into panels 2 as panels-mini is brought into the panels 2 module-range?
Looking forward to the progress of this panels 2 beta 1 integration!

edrex: I would start an issue.... but I'm not having anymore issues with it saving using beta1.

Everything seems to be working great....

Hi,

Do you mean that the panels_taxonomy 5.x-1.x-dev version is already 100% panels 2 beta 1 compatable?

greetings,
Martijn
