I'm looking for a reliable and low-hassle hosting solution for a site I'm having built. It looks like I'll need a dedicated server for the volume of traffic (I hope) I'll have.

Reliability matters more than price, but I obviously don't want to pay more than I have to. =)

Requirements...
- Must be managed. I don't want to worry about Linux security patches, and I'd like the setup all done to make things easy on my developer
- 80gb drive is probably plenty for now, but there will be a lot of image uploading
- 1,000 simultaneous logged-in users

HostPC and LiquidWeb are the two recommendations I've gotten so far. Anyone have experience / recommendations?

Thanks,
Patricia

They use FreeBSD instead of Linux, but their reliability is great. Drupal runs just fine on their boxes.

Hi Patricia,

I work at: http://www.drupalvaluehosting.com/

This is a premium drupal hosting service. We have several dedicated servers which you can lease on a monthly basis from us.
We will manage the dedicated server for you, includes all software updates, scheduled data backups, all hardware related issues.

Here are some server specs that you may find interesting:
Super Fast: Xeon QuadCore 5335 'Clovertown', 4 x 2.0 GHz, 2 x 4 MB L2 Cache ; 4 to 16 GB RAM (FB-DIMM) ;
Port Speed 1000 Mbps (Premium Bandwidth) ;

Latest Server Software:CentOS v5, cPANEL, Apache v2.2.6, Mysql5 : v 5.0.27, PHP5 : v 5.2.5, Curl, Openssl, Mcrypt, Mbstring, GD, eAccelerator, Bz2, Zip, XML, Soap, exif, json, RoR and lot more

If the above server configuration looks interesting, you can contact me via email. I will be happy to provide managed dedicated servers for your drupal project at highly attractive rates

I don't have any experience with dedicated servers, so I can't help on that front. But it seems to me that you might want to start with a Virtual Private Server first and then move up from there if your site warrants it. This way, it'll be cheaper, and you can learn what works best. Plus, if you go with a company that does VPS and dedicated upgrading shouldn't be much of a problem.

I always mention http://webhostingtalk.com/ for reviews and special deals on hosting. If you don't know about it, check it out.

But 1000 logged in users takes up a lot of resources. (Do you expect that right away or is that a goal?) You might want to look into apache2 alternatives like nginx or lightspeed to help with the load.

Thanks, Silverwing! I think that's good advice. I'd kind of dismissed VPS out of hand, but after some research I think it makes sense to try this first.

Next stop, LiquidWeb's VPS2....

Whether to start off with a VPS or opt for a Dedicated Server right away entirely depends on you, However if you don't have much experience with either a VPS or a Dedicated Server, You should look for a provider who offers managed VPS and dedicated servers.
