link to audio file already uploaded using audio module

Don't know if this is possible, but here goes:

I have audio files already uploaded using the audio module, and I like the way this works. I want to keep the audio nodes created by the audio module, but I would like to be able to link to the same audio files they reference in different nodes using the mediafield module rather than having to upload the same files again. Perhaps this is something simple I'm missing, or the module is not designed to work this way. If not, please consider this a feature request. Thanks.
