If you select "custom" as the formatter and provide a callback that should be called to format the values for a views_calc field, that will never be called due to an error in the array with the formatting options. THe attached patch will resolve that issue.

I can confirm the problem and the working patch!
We're using this fix in production since a long period of time. Please fix ASAP and create a new stable release, please! :)
