I upgraded to 7x-1.8 and now the rotating header image doesn't appear. I've put a number of images in "headerimg" and headerimg-rtl" folders but none display.

What am I missing?

You have to do the followings:
1) Be sure that header rotator is activated in theme's settings;
2) Refresh Drupal internals by accessing site's cache/performance;
3) Reload CSS (Ctrl+F5)

Ok - I found the issue. When I updated I didn't replace the style-zero.css file because I had made changes. I have since seen the custom-style.css file and moved my changes there but had forgotten (until now) to update the style-zero.css file.
