It would be handy if I could allow site administrators and other privileged users to be unaffected by maxlength, while less trusted site contributors who need their word count reigned in are still subject to it.

We are putting a feature freeze on the Drupal 7 version of the module, so I'm marking this Closed (works as designed). Thank youmaking this feature request.

The Drupal 8/9 version does have this feature (although it's currently broken and needs fixing, see https://www.drupal.org/project/maxlength/issues/3195874 ). If you haven't already, I encourage you to upgrade your websites to Drupal 9 and enjoy this plus the many other features the latest version of Drupal has to offer.
