It seems that the font-size has changed (increased) with the new 3.x version. What is the best way to reduce the size without breaking browsers?

I've got a local.css and can changed the font-size for individual items but this is probably not the best way to do it.

You can change it in the theme settings, yes font size increased, small fonts are old school, we move with the times :)
