I have tried to use many regions to display a footer but they do not work. None of the footer* regions nor tryptich.

Are you saying that Blocks you place in the Footer and/or Tryptich regions are not being displayed? Is this specific to a certain type of browser? Do you see this only on a smartphone?

Dumb user problem. I had forgotten that with a previous theme I had disabled the display of the block in the mobile device. When I switched to this theme I did not check.
