Also, when I add what I think are the blocks to the appropriate regions, they are unthemed and don't look like the demo.
Please advise, how can I set up the top user bars to look like the demo?

Some of the demo products not imported.

Is there any way to fix without a complete reinstall, everything else looks good.

This could be because of the memory limit on your ini files. Kindly increase and retry the installation.

Take a look at the installation instructions here (http://www.drupalcommerce.org/commerce-kickstart-2/install) and especially the troubleshooting part (http://www.drupalcommerce.org/commerce-kickstart-2/troubleshooting-kicks...) this should fix your issues.

I fixed it. Indeed, it was an issue with memory limits. Just a forewarning, if you want to set up a local LAMP stack on Ubuntu and not tweak any settings...to get this going, you'll be disappointed.
