Hi,

I suppose your module aims at being much simpler, but what are the clear differences with Simplenews?

  • Simple Bulk Email is primarily for sending plain text email without the overhead involved in maintaining and sending newsletters. Wrapping the message content within a newsletter is not required.
  • Simple Bulk Email does not require users to maintain a newsletter.
  • Simple Bulk Email does not require as much configuration as Simplenews.
  • Simplenews does not allow users to send the same copy of a newsletter that has already been sent; you must create a new newsletter or edit a value in the database to change the status of the newsletter to "not yet sent". When you create a message template in Simple Bulk Email, you can reference and send that copy repeatedly without making changes anywhere.
  • Simple Bulk Email allows you to send an email to many recipients "on the fly" (with or without creating a template). Simplenews requires you to create a newsletter and assign recipients to that newsletter before you can send it.

An example use case:
If I am a cattle ranch owner and I want to send out an email to hundreds of my customers about a new recipe that I just came across for cooking pot roast, I would not necessarily need a newsletter to do that. A simple email app that allows me to circumvent spam controls with my email host provider could suffice. A newsletter might be overkill and possibly more complicated for some folks.
