While taking a look at Joomla!s installation workflow, I noticed that they have a language-picker on the first screen with the language in the native tounge (see attached photo).
It's probably too late to include a usability feature like this for 6.x, but integrating a language picker would probably be a good goal to integrate into the existing workflow.
One road block is to figure out how to dynamically update such a drop-down list of options as time goes on.
There aren't any existing 6.x translations, and so I'm not familiar enough if this would even be possible, but I think it's something to think about for the future.
