What about showing the node title & author's link (as seen on usual nodes) when displaying the password input request to the visitor?
FYI: Today's title "Protected node - Enter password" expects that visitor was informed how to obtain the password or who can provide more info in advance - unfortunately that routines will be different in varied contexts (you know: more comfort for user = less phone calls for admin :-) ) Now I can show them some uniform general hint only (as localized string, wow;-)), but "Press Back in your browser & find the author of previous page & ask him" sounds odd, isn't it?

You can now use the token module at the admin interface of protected_node to create site specific info messsage to the protected node password inquiry page.
