The way this works with the reuse of the other existing embedded widget and then form altering seems hacky.

It also means that it won't work outside of entity forms.

It would be good to change ot to be its own custom widget.

Related issue: #1438266: Widget doesn't work with nested entity forms, like profile2 and nested field_collection

If this one gets fixed in theory that one will not be needed.

Do you think this will also get fixed this Integrate with Inline Entity Form where inline entity form widget can also be used for field collection item?
