Release notes
This is the first release of the new 5.x-2.x series of gallery module. The new module has some excellent new features and provides a major overhaul of the UI and the underlying code.
New feature available with the 5.x-2.x series:
- Powerful user/role sync and bulk import/sync options (can also import G2 users into Drupal)
- Install wizard for initial configuration (and improved test routines)
- Support for multiple image/grid blocks
- Full support for G2.2 (ability to have different size images (exactSize) -- not just the thumbnail)
- Support for XML Sitemaps
- More sidebar control (move admin sidebar into a Drupal block)
- Improved search (with advanced search capability)
- Easier settings and clear administrative UI
- Improved error handling and debugging
- Uninstall support
- Gallery Menu: Incorporates G2 albums as Drupal menu items
- Gallery Profile: Adds useralbum features to profile pages
- ...
During the last 7 months the gallery module code has been reworked almost completely. The new module has got a clear UI, more structured code and a basic API, which provides much more flexibility and extensibility than it was achievable with the old series. A good starting point for additional features that will be included in the Drupal 6 version of gallery module.
Documentation and Support
There have also been changes to the infrastructure for the Gallery2 integration:
Documentation can be found at http://codex.gallery2.org/Integration:Drupal. You can still post bug reports and feature requests in the Issues tracker, support requests should generally go to the new Gallery2 Integrations Forums first. You may also join the Gallery2 Integration group for latest news and discussion on the module.
Please consider to add your site(s) to the table of Drupal+Gallery2 installations. Thanks!
Installation / Update
Please read the Installation instructions and backup your database before upgrading the module. The new series has been tested extensivly, but we cant garantee that you will not encounter any issues. In principle the update is straight forward: Replace the all files from the old module with the new ones and run update.php. After that you will need to configure some basic options to complete the update.
I hope you enjoy the new design and functionality of gallery module 5.x-2.x :)
