attach image to node?

Hi,

Is it possible to attach an image to a node, that would be displayed next to the title and text in teaser view? If i just place an image in the beginning of the next, it displays next to the text but the title is still above it, i would like to have the title also next to the image.

i found in node.tpl.php

i found in node.tpl.php this

<?php print $picture; ?>

But i cant see where it is defined. How does it work? I think thats what i need but i find no way to attach an image to a node.
