for 7.x-2.x will be support for the autocomplete widget as well for regular text and number fields??

I know there is a patch in http://drupal.org/node/1302636 but the code now seems different.

Hi, @pitxels - no, lists are no longer supported as of the 2.x branch. I'm closing this as outdated as I did #1302636: Core Drupal Numeric Field Types Changed.
