Abandoned Groups: Policy for Deleting a Group or Changing Its Manager
Last updated on
7 October 2020
A Drupal group can become abandoned in two different senses:
- The group manager can lose interest, become too busy with other activities, or otherwise abandon the group. In this case, the group would need a new manager.
- The group itself can lose the unique purpose that differentiated it from some other group. In this case, the two groups should merge.
If you think a group has reached either of these points, take these steps:
- In the group's discussion, post a new thread in which you propose the desired change in manager, request that groups be merged, or request that the group be deleted. (If the group is closed to new members and you are not a member of the group, you may skip this step and an administrator will do it for you.)
- Using the current manager’s contact form, send them a message pointing them to that thread.
- Wait 2 weeks. In the meantime, respond to any comments that occur.
- Post an issue to the groups.drupal.org project confirming completion of steps 1-3 and requesting the change, with a link to the original message.
- A groups.drupal.org maintainer will review the change and make it happen.
Note that if the native language of the group is not English, you should post the message and contact the current manager in both English and the native language of the group.
