I'm looking for a module that will allow me to make a thumbnail photo gallery where I can put captions for the photo.
has anyone had experience with such a module in drupal-5 which works well?

thank you for any suggestions.

I think you can do it using CCK and Views:

You would have to create a special field for the caption, but I am fairly certain it can be done.

I followed this last night and while it works nicely, it generates error messages when images are uploaded and when you click on an image node. There are many holes in the tutorial so if you're a new comer, think twice. This tutorial is not written for beginners - not even close. A reasonable amount of Drupal knowledge is assumed and required to pull this off.

The referenced page I noted is one way to set up an image gallery that might allow one to create a field for a caption. No, it is not for beginners, and the "holes" -- real or imagined -- are likely the result of the author of the tutorial assuming more knowledge on the part of the reader than he should have. In any event, you should not be getting errors of any kind if you have set up all the modules (Views, View Bonus pack, CCK, image_field, and image_cache) correctly.

Susan, if you have any questions, I will be happy to help you. To see what can be done with the image module, please go here:

You can click on the thumbnail of the musical score, and it will open a larger image with a caption that you can customize. If this works for your purposes, it is very easy to set up. best, david

that's exactly what I would like to do with an image gallery.
I'll go ahead and do the module builds and contact you if I run into any snags.

thanks to all.

Just use the standard image.module, it has been refined over the last several months and is now really outstanding.

I'm not sure if I'm agreed with you here ;-) I tried it (I'm familiar with Drupal) but I give the url to a friend of me, and she made a nice gallery follow this guide. She have only used Drupal for 2 months (and never other cms, only little Dreamweaver) . So if you are following this careful, it's should go fine. You can always delete it if it don't work out.
