It seems that the BLOB data that Field Group is using (or storing) is retaining old fields that were once used, but are no longer being used. I've verified this by downloading the BLOB data and unserializing it. In the resulting array that I'm able to view, it shows old fields that I removed long ago inside one of the respective field groups I'm currently using in my D7 site.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a patch?

(I'm going to close this because I think my understanding of what's going on in that data is off. :.) Sorry. I came across that data when I was trying to troubleshoot something else and I think it just made me suspect something that wasn't true.)
