Restricting number of editions display on publication page

Add a publication.
Then Add Editions to this publication.
Now visit the publication page that would be something like www.example.com/epublish/1
This page list all the editions and its stories.
Imagine a situation where someone publishes edition every week and has been doing so for 2 years.
The publication page keeps loading for several minutes.
Can we have paging on publication page? That way we can restrict the number of editions on every page. This should resolve the problem to some extent.
Did anyone worked on it?

same is true for 4.7x. Is there any patch available for this?
