My request wasn't accepted in #1449634: Remove hosts from the hosting page, so posting a new one.
How to get listed on drupal.org/hosting page on https://association.drupal.org/advertising/hosting has the following section:
Other Great Hosts
Do you contribute code, documentation, support, and are work day-in and day-out to make Drupal the number #1 CMS? Let us know what you're doing and we'll consider highlighting your company on the hosting page. Hosts highlighted here contribute significantly and over a sustained period of time.
Demonstrate positive reviews by the Drupal community
Be rocking awesome and show us your code, documentation, and support requests. We want to see your participation in the Drupal community.
Provide an affiliate link (to the Association)
Be a Drupal Association Organization Member
Note: Providing a Drupal hosted environment does not qualify for this category as we are looking for improvements made directly to the Drupal project
To apply, contact megan@association.drupal.org
Those are vague enough criteria, on the basis of which quite subjective decisions can be taken. For example, we have been struggling to get listed for already couple years (http://groups.drupal.org/node/206978) and pretty sure our Drupal-specific hosting company (http://drupion.com) fulfills every single requirement listed. However, we keep receiving requests form DA rep to present a proof of our enough contributions to the community. So it is basically up to DA reps' subjective evaluation and decision whether to aprove anyone's application or not. This is not transparent and not fair policy at all and hence has to be reviewed and changed.
What we request is to totally remove "Other great hosts" section from http://drupal.org/hosting and leave only paid advertisements, since as it can be seen on http://drupal.org/node/1955290 and http://groups.drupal.org/node/206978 it can lead to total frustration of candidate applicants, who have been struggling, but failed to get included since long. To save Dries and headed by him Drupal Association from further speculations and accusations in grandfathering certain hosting vendors "Other great hosts" should be completely removed or other Drupal-specific companies should be let in to that list on http://drupal.org/hosting
Thanks!

cweagansThere has been lots of discussion in the past about this issue. The fact is, being listed is a reward and NOT a right. The reward is for making significant contributions to Drupal over a sustained period of time.
There is no doubt in my mind that the companies that you have listed have made significant contributions. For instance, Steve Brown has spent countless hours giving support in the forums (especially when related to issues that his hosting customers bring to the table): http://drupal.org/user/161788/track
koumbit.org has made significant contributions (detailed here: http://drupal.org/marketplace/koumbit)
In fact, koumbit would be a good example to follow as far as "significant contribution" goes. For instance, anarcat (http://drupal.org/user/1274) has contributed almost 3000 commits by himself. ergonlogic has another 2000.
Number of commits isn't necessarily the measure of contribution in this case, but the point is that the hosting listing is reserved for companies that have a contribution-based workflow. That is, they contribute everything they possibly can, day in and day out for an extended period of time. As far as I can tell, Drupion has not done that.
