I think there's no direct connection between selecting and creating node types. (maybe user can choose from type A or B and should be able to create from B or C...)

So actually the best might be list with all the bundles in both 'Allow users to add existing nodes' and 'Entity selection mode'. They are not related at all.

I would disagree. There allowed bundles should be the same regardless if you are creating or selecting an existing entity. The only argument I could see is that you would want to make the set of bundles that a user can create *more restrictive* than the bundles that can be referenced.

I agree with #1.
We already have different permissions used (the bundle selection for add requires "create", referencing requires "view" permissions).

My Current situation is:
User can select from A or B. She can only create B.
This situation covers what you are talking about.

I can imagine a situation where user can select from A and can create B. Why not? World is open.

Originally the first situation didn't work for me: a made the nodes list with a view and user couldnt select from them. It's a bug and I created an issue for that ... Once that bug is solved I'm fine. Just I think someone will need it for sure...
