I would like this feature too, but I just took a stab at it and it's just too complicated for me (I'm not much of a PHP guy and even less of a regexp guy.) If you use weblinks then this module is pretty useless (if you don't, it's pretty cool, although it does slow things down considerably.)

subscribing. Looks like there hasn't been much movement on this. Anyone working on it? This module has a lot of similiarities to external links. This one has the very cool advantage of using favicons, while that module applies to all external links sitewide, so CCK link fields and other external links are included.
