Author: dmitrig01

The Actions and Triggers systems are new to Drupal 6, and could potentially confuse lots of administrators.

This task will involve installing Drupal 6, learning about actions and triggers modules, creating a script, then creating a video. The video should show how to use Actions and Triggers do a couple of simple, practical examples.

The task is complete when the video is uploaded to drupal.org in the vidcasts section.

Resources:

* Contribute your own Drupal Videocast: http://drupal.org/node/62196
* Trigger help page at Administer >> Help >> Trigger on any Drupal 6 installation.

Estimated time:
2-4 days

Okay my comments

On the technical side: the downloaded wmv was unplayable on my linux box, i know this might be a nit-picking thing, but its very disappointing, and could pose further codec problems. Encode the video into a cross-platform, well known format such as divx. Don't use your native screen resolution. Imagine that the average user has a screen size of 1024x768, they won't see a thing of your screencast. Not even in fullscreen mode. Reduce your resolution for the duration of the screencast to 800x600 is a good compromise.

that 16 second page load time was like woah, try cutting the video.

On the brighter side I quite liked the overall screencast text, explanations and examples. If you correct the technical issues I think it will be a great piece of training material!

(and a personal remark on presentation style, regardless this issue i would approve the task: first of all in a presentation you should never ever present half the screen full of text, nor does it make sense to read it loudly. Your audience can read too.)

Yes, I agree that the resolution is a bit of an issue for people with smaller screens. The normal format for videos in the handbook is .mov or .mp4 - I don't think I've ever seen divx. TimRogersCool, is it possible for you have the video output as or converted to .mp4 or .mov? If you can't, I know there are a number of people in the community with the software to do conversions so we can get that cleaned up.

Re: the text on screen, I would normally do bullet points rather than the whole text and then just speak the meat of it. Then again I think the text on the screen can be verrry useful for folks that aren't as familiar with English. I know that I often find it easier to read and write in a foreign language whereas listening to native speakers can be very hard to follow and I can miss important bits. With the text on the screen I can pause it and read it, look up words, etc. So, I wouldn't ding this for that reason at all.

And extra kudos on this task for making the very thorough handbook page with all of the text as well - nicely done!

i wanted to write it to the personal remark that it wouldnt influence my +1, but it got left out somehow.

I had to record it into a WMV as I couldn't find a recorder that would do decent quality other than Windows Media Encoder, which only records to a WMV file. In the future, I will look for a better screen recorder and will change the resolution.

Good deal. Dmitri has said he will work on converting it and see if he can get a decent copy in another format.

This task is complete! Awesome work.
