Hi, I am having trouble finding the meaning and use of the user status. My initial thought was the setting a user to 'blocked' would disable them from logging in to the system, but testing it still allows this. Please help.

It [probably] doesn't take effect until that user has logged out, also it probably won't work on user/1.
