Can the ticker "print out" text horizontally rather than scrolling it?

Issue Summary

I have a client who wants a ticker which - instead of scrolling the text - prints it out one character at a time, like the original tickertapes. See http://news.bbc.co.uk for an example.

Could this alternative be added as a feature? or is it an easy thing to hack?
