I did not even notice that I had clicked the menu item "Disable Developer Modules" in the admin menu that disables all the modules listed in the Admin Menu configuration.
This has happened to me twice now separated by about 8 months so linking the two events was not something my mind was able to do as other more nefarious options occurred to me 1st.
I have now configured the module list to disable none of the modules if I accidentally click the toggle again. So I guess that solves this issue for me but I just cant help making a point about this for future newbies.
For others the modules that get automatically disabled without warning are the following:
Administration Development tools
Context UI
Devel
Devel node access
Theme developer
Field UI
@font-your-face UI
Localization update
Rules UI
String Overrides
Util
Views UI
I have noticed a number of issues littered across the internet on various sites related to this toggle with people puzzled on how all these modules could suddenly be disabled and having no clue that they had accidentally clicked the toggle. Also most people can't admit to themselves they did click the toggle and many make up tortuous explanations of how this has happened. An example posting is this one on drupal.org https://drupal.org/node/1853782
As a suggestion the toggle should have at least a warning "Are you sure?" before it immediately disables the modules listed above OR a landing page informing them the toggle was clicked OR a drupal message that the toggle was clicked. IMHO all three should be added.
I know it adds a watchdog message, thats nice, but it is silent nothing is shown to the administrator immediately informing him something pretty big has just happened. Considering that the above list of automatically disabled modules include some basic UI used to manage virtually every drupal site having them disabled apparently out of the blue without warning I can tell you makes you think your server just got hacked.
Anything that would help the poor souls, who have just started learning Drupal and who after accidentally clicking the toggle spent several hours of their life scratching their heads wondering how the hell did that happen and thinking "have I just been hacked" would be appreciated.
You could then add a configuration to disable the warning that the following list of modules will be automatically disabled for the "Experts" who know exactly what they are doing.
Also I am deliberately making this post long so that it gets caught by Google so that if nothing gets changed at least the individuals who have poor finger control have at least a chance to find this posting and know what has happened when a Drupal module or Drupal modules suddenly get disabled without warning.
I have to say also that the Administration Menu module is fantastic. I could not function without this module. Keep up the good work!
