Hi,

Since uploading the site to the server the images do not appear and come up as questions marks even though they can be seen in the picture folder. Is this a permission issue - please could you let me know asap how I can rectify this problem I need to get it live for a client by tomorrow.

It indeed sounds like permission problem. Usually the web server should have full permissions for all folders on /sites/default/files
You can temporary try 777 permissions for your /sites/default/files/styles and see if it solve your problem.

If so, you can leave it now as 777, and later you should craft more secure set of permissions.
