I used the module to make an exposed filter with a view for to allow selecting from the hierarichal terms as entered in the form but after submiting the form it redirect to the home page which is wrong

It must redirect to the same page url plus the filter argument so the contextual filter for the view read its arguments and the gets the result

You are using a very old version of Simple hierarchical select.
Does the error still exist after updating to the newest version?

If not, please provide some more information about your configuration and make sure this isn't a general problem with your installation (for example test exposed filters *not* using Simple hierarchical select).
