cannot pageroute back to /user/!uid

I am attempting to redirect the user back to their /user page after completing a registration pageroute or after updating their information. some docs have indicated a "customized redirect" existed at one point. i cannot find that option among the pageroute page types. my pageroute currently dead-ends at a lonely display of the last form completed. this technically works, but is not user-friendly. any thoughts on how to implement this would be GREATLY appreciated. thank you!
