Is there a way to postion the Caption at the top?
Using a Text Area from Field Collection, that is accessible (with patch), but I want the caption placed below the Top pager and above the image.

Could I do this with Panels?

override field_slideshow.tpl.php, copy this file from module and place it under your sub-theme/templates directory, inside file change order of rendering.
