Clean URLs suddenly stopped working with 400 errors

Hi,

I've had Drupal 4.2-rc running for over a week, and suddenly yesterday my site no longer works. Specifically clean URLs is the culprit. If I go to the old style URLS, things work fine, but the clean URLS give a 400 error (Bad Request). I've double checked the .htaccess file and that works. I've talked to my webhost and they confirm the .htaccess file is being read (some of my redirects in it are working) but the rewrites for clean urls are broken. They tell me they've seen this before and changing the rewrites will sometimes fix this. I've played with this some but nothing seems to work. I've now turned off clean URLs, but really would prefer them back.

Anyone else seen anything like this? I personally believe this is a server / configuration problem with my webhost since this was working until yesterday afternoon when it just suddenly broke (and I haven't changed anything on my site for a few days).

Agreed.

You're correct - this is almost certainly a server configuration problem. I don't know what to suggest, other than to shout some more at your web host...

I guess what I'm looking for

I guess what I'm looking for are ideas how to approach this with my webhost. Anyone have ideas on what could have changed to cause this? I've asked them (and they've denied) that Apache has been bounced or modified around the time this started. Its just frustrating as I've had really good luck and support from this webhost and then have this happen right after moving this site to them...
