When using the views_view_field to include one PDF view in another, field values from the parent view can be passed as arguments to the child view. The replacement patterns that are available to be passed as arguments are not displayed because theme_item_list() is not called correctly. I've rolled a patch that fixes the problem. Patch to follow below.
