use spry module with active select?

Issue Summary

is there a way to use active select with the spry module?

I'm asking because of this scenario:
- I want to use the credit card validation spry text field.
- but how will I know which credit card type users have (under "Format Options" - visa, mastercard, etc)?
- my question is, can I add a select list for the credit card types, & use active select to select the spry format option to fit (for validation purposes)?

I would just try to play around with this first, but can't get spry to work (see other issue: http://drupal.org/node/198190 for more context of where and what I'm trying to do).
