Media 2.0 support was just added. And that is still not really working perfectly. So I think scald support is not going to happen soon. Maybe the maintainer wants to put it on the roadmap.

I don't know much about scald. But it seems the 'media atoms' are fieldable entities. So it might be possible to add 'file entity fields' to them? Like in media 2.0 quickstart guide
