If a cell contains a numerical zero value, i.e. 0, the cell is return as an empty cell of zero length.
I think this is because of a bug in phpexcel.inc::phpexcel_import($path, $keyed_by_headers = TRUE).
All instances of:
$value = $cell->getValue() ? $cell->getValue() : '';
will return an incorrect '' for a value of 0 (zero).
