I have Textimage and Captcha installed and running on a Drupal 5.x multi-site installation. In most of my sites, it works great. On one site however, anytime textimage does anything involving custom fonts or custom backgrounds, the image in question becomes a big solid block. For instance, with custom fonts and default backgrounds, the image produced has solid blocks where each letter should be. With custom backgrounds, the whole image is obscured by one big block.

I can't even find an error message to point me in the right direction! I know that GD is working, because it works for all my other sites. Help!

What browser do you use? And do you use GIF or PNG? Generally I find you do have to have a solid colour background though ... I've seen the blocky thing happen..

I get solid blocks of white behind the letters if I specify a background image, but do not specify a background colour. I suppose you have to have just enough solid colour in the design of your background image to stop this being noticable.
