Select box only gives default language nodes as option

Hi,

I have a content type A with an entity reference to the same content type A.
I also have 12 different languages.

When I create a new node of content type A and language C, it doesn't matter which language I select for this new node. I can only link it to nodes in the default language of my site, the nodes in other languages just never show in the select options.
I'd like to get this setup so that when I create a new node of content type A in language C, I only get dropdown options form nodes of content type A in language C.

Additional information:
When I edit the entity reference field I'm discussing here, I can set the default option for this field.
The weird thing is that here, all nodes from all languages are showing. When i pick one from language C as default, create a new node of content type A, it isn't set as default and it is still unavailable in the select list.
