Is there any way to set up a block that links to the phpfreechat so that it runs as a standalone chat that still links to the buddy system or user account of my site. I like this chat system but I don't want to include it within the regular content areas such as while posting a blog or page or audio etc. I just want to link to it via a graphics link within a block just like I do with my pop up audio player. I have all of the popup stuff already worked out I just need to know if the phpfreechat can work like this. Any help is greatly appreciated, TIA

Here Goes
Hello, it's been a long time since this post and no responses to it for help. So here goes, I decided sometime back to not tacle this request because I found the IMchat module and it really works pretty good but very simplistic, buggy and the development team seems to be not interested in continuing with it in a way that does not force me to move to another server with ruby rails. Also I just looked and there is not a path towards development in the drupal version 6 path, not to say that they are not going there. Anyhow I decided to revisit the phpfreechat system which has been around and has a development team that seems to be strong in its support. My plan is to create a page under create content. I am the administrator and the only one who can create this kind of content on my site. I guess one could create another content type and call it chat or what ever. Just make sure that nobody else has the ability to create the content type you intend to have a chat room within. Unless that is what you want of course. Then I plan on creating a graphic block that will point to this page I have created and pop it up as a pop up. The page creation under content type allows you to turn on the phofreechat system within it. So when this page pops up it should immediately start up the chat system within it. You can control the size of this page with the settings of the phpfreechat chat size properties as well as have some control via html within this page content too if needed. This is all my intentions to give this a try. This way the chat system is non obtrusive to the actual pages on the site the users are visiting and acts like an individual window that they can still communicate while surfing your site. I will give all this a try and then come back here to let you know what I have discovered. If anyone knows something here I am missing please help out.
One other thing, I currently have the chat system running just from a sticky page on top of my site for testing it out. I just installed it to latest versions 1.2 with the latest 5.x series module. On this test chat system I heve a bunch of text that grows under the chat window fram and would like to know how to turn all of this off if possible or maybe it is a bug or something on my system causing it. Any help is greatly appreciated guys.
Here is what that stuff looks like right below the smiley faces on the chat system. I apologize if this has been covered somewhere else. This post is so old and never answered and I am revisiting this kind of setup and since I am here I decided to mention the second issue. After these two things are worked out I think I am good to go, I hope haha.
Here it is:

There Goes
Well I tried the pop up part as mentioned I would above. It works as a new pop up page but, I forgot that Drupal node url is the entire content including the side bars and headers etc. I don't know of how to just get that page content by itself to load into a pop up window. If I just create a separate html page outside of Drupal and pop it up and have it load the phpfreechat program I think I will loose all of the module functionality that links everything together within Drupal. The phpfreechat module needs to have a block that runs the chat via popup from a side bar just like the imchat system does. This could also show the current buddies system link as well as the imchat module does. Any suggestions or work around are welcome.

Talking to myself
Well it appears as though I am talking to myself again, here on this post haha. I decided to just load it into another blank page and settle with that. I did upgrade to the next version in the hopes that it would get rid of an anoying problem where when you send a chat remark it double and sometime triple posts. The chat also has a long delay with the sound also. Is there a way to eliminate these two problems or is this just the case of a slow server response. Would throttle module help with this? It jumps around all over the place from 240ms 420ms 510ms 610ms 1240ms delays. That earlier garbage problem eventually cleared itself out, I can't remember what I had done, possibly during an update PHP script run and cache clearing maybe?
Thanks
Eric
I didn't read this whole
I didn't read this whole thread, but it's very easy to install phpFreeChat on your site then link to it as a standalone. Even if you install the Drupal module, you can access it either way - as a standalone or through Drupal. You just access the phpFreeChat directory directly. It comes with a default index.php that you can change to look however you want. Then you just link to the external version from Drupal.
(I'm the maintainer of the phpFreeChat module on Drupal - I just released the Drupal 6 version.)
Drupal 6
Yea I took the phpfree chat off my site for now until I go to Drupal 6. For some reason I could not get it to perform reliably. Big delays and response time between chats very poor sound, would not always work except three threads away from the original chat post, stuff like that. I don't think it is PHPfree chat that is the problem. I think the server I am using may be the cause. Also the server host I am using is still on PHP ver 4.x, this might also be problematic? I like having the Drupal buddy list Module tied into the chat so I will have to use the Drupal module version instead of a standalone one. Thjanks for replying to this post. I will try it again later.
