I just tried to go from Zen 5.x-0.7 to 5.x-0.8 (on Drupal 5.3). The new Zen version didn't work at all. It even rendered the system inaccessible, because almost all of the stuff that should be on screen was outside of the screen on the left side. Had to use tricks and URLs to get the system back into a working state.
What could be wrong here? I used the current Internet Explorer 7.
I've seen all kinds of bad stuff with earlier versions of Zen as well and begin to long for a table-based layout that would be a lot more resilient. But I'd give Zen another try if only I had the faintest idea where to look for the cause. Even if some of my blocks were too wide, how could that possibly push the main content out on the left side?
Another rather fundamental problem (already entered as a bug) is that I was unable to install 0.8 besides 0.7, so I can work on the new version while users can still use the old, but that's a different issue.

Has anybody installed Zen 0.8 and has seen any similar problem? Or no such problem at all?
Since installing the theme is a pretty straightforward procedure, I'm still totally confused over what I could possibly have done wrong.

A) you should be using Drupal 5.5, you are two security releases behind known exploits.
B) are you using zen ? or zen classic which is bundled with zen ?
C) can the problem be reproduced on a clean install ?
D) can the problem be reproduced with the -dev version of zen ?

I also have the same problem
I also have the same problem with Zen 0.8 version moving to the left side. All other themes work. If I go back to my previous version 0.6 I have no problem. (I had not upgraded to 0.7)
I am:
A) using Drupal 5.5
B) I am using Zen (zen-5.x-0.8.tar.gz)
C) I have not tried the -dev version of Zen as I could not locate it. (I tried to find zen-5.x-dev-tar.gz)
I believe it is a firefox 2.0.0.11 issue as the Zen theme works in IE 7.0.6000.16575

B) I understand you are using zen 0.8 however, somewhere along the way, zen began to include two themes in the zen package. zen & zen classic. zen has no styling at all, which zen classic retains the zen that was included in the original download. I suppose I can show you what I mean with screencaptures if necessary. You may also see what I mean when you visit the zen project page, the image there shows no styling.
C) zen-5.x-dev-tar.gz is correct and is found by clicking on the view more releases on the zen project page. It's what I am using without issue, Though I have mine set to zen classic on my dev install.

I understand your comments regarding the Zen & Zen classic. In 0.6 I was using the Zen classic. When I installed 0.8 it only showed me the Zen (no option for Zen classic). When I renamed the Zen to Zen_0.8 and installed the dev package (which was named Zen-5.x-1.x-dev.tar.gz found here: http://drupal.org/node/110535) version 0.8 showed me both Zen & Zen classic.
In the dev package, more is shown of the Zen theme. Only the left side menu is now hidden in Firefox. It still runs fine in IE.
The dev package does not show me the Zen classic option. Same problem I had when I first installed 0.8
However, I was able to turn on the 0.8 Zen classic once I renamed it. It runs OK!
So, the issue is with the plain Zen. The issue is compounded by the fact that when you install it you only see the Zen and not both the Zen and Zen Classic. I can attach a screen shot of the Zen Theme options if you can tell me how.

A) I'm on Drupal 5.5 meanwhile. Thanks for the hint.
B) I only tried Zen 5.x-0.8, nothing else. The content went off the screen on the left side, such that it was difficult to get out again, because I couldn't even see the menu.
C) Have not tried a clean install. Time is always short and limited. Installing a complete Drupal is much more work than installing a theme. It is not worth the effort.
D) I do not beta-test. If 0.8 does not work, I will not try -dev, but will instead wait for 0.9. I'm asking here only to see whether my problem is known, whether a simple workaround is known, or whether I can find out quickly whether I'm doing something wrong.

Let's discontinue this discussion and continue in the issue Zen is displayed halfway off the left side of the screen instead. I've looked at the issue and am sure that it is the exact same problem.
