I'm looking at upgrading my site to D7 and building a responsive theme. I have some basic knowledge of CSS and a general understanding of how it works, but wouldn't call myself a developer.
So before I get stuck into Zen 7.x-5.x, I have some really basic, dumb questions:
1) Can I restrict the installation of SASS/Compass to the workstation where I develop my theme, or do they have to be installed also on the production system?
2) Would I be really stupid to try to start using Zen 7.x-5.x without a working knowledge of Sass/Compass?

1) Sass/Compass normally is used on your local development environment and not on your production server.

2) Jumping in is how you learn, there is massive info online, and bottom line, you don't have to use Sass with Zen. Read all the Zen ReadMe files and search for anything you don't understand.
