Can somebody tell me how I can disable the dropdown on hovering?
So how can I disable the expanded lists?

When you edit the top level menu links of your menu you can set the 'expanded' option, leave this unchecked to not have the items in the dropdown.
Another option is to use the block_menu module and place it in the 'Main menu' region on the blocks listing page. With the block_menu module you can choose how many levels of the menu should be loaded.
