I have captcha and set really high distortion and background noise but the spammers just cut through like nothing was there. I need help, well actually I just need suggestions please.

What can I do??

there are multiple modules which can be used singularly or in combination depending on what exactly is occurring. If they are humans, there isn't a great deal that can be done. beyond a non spammer role as drupal.org utilizes.

switch to mollom it will perform much better than the captcha module

ok, I am using mollom now but it is an after the fact service. I think perhaps I did not explain the issue well enough.

Every day I get 3 to 4 pages of registrations from spammers. It is very difficult to go through 3 or 4 pages of mostly nonsensical names to find the legit registrations. It is as though these people are bypassing captcha altogether to register.

It is the nonsensical name registrations I wish to curtail.

did u configure mollom properly?

Another way to fight spammer is banning their IP address.
