Sorry, but I can't find in D7 where to access the menu editor. It does not show up in my admin menu.
Also..the D7 version of the module does not have a readme.txt and the project page does not show the path to the menu editor?

Can you check the permissions?
Also, have a look at menu_editor_menu(), that should hint you about the paths.

(The other stuff you say seems valid, but I am traveling atm, so can't give it as much attention. Feel free to post something useful until I'm back. Patches, suggestions, etc)
