I downloaded and installed this theme because it seems to offer great functionality. I did run into a few issues, so I signed up for the developer's paid support. I posted four specific requests for help, each with a single, well-defined question. After twelve days, the developer has yet to respond to a single one of them.

I have disputed the charges on PayPal and hope to receive a refund.

Bottom line - avoid this theme. The developer is completely and totally non-responsive, even to those who have paid money for support.

Hi Groston,

I don't think the developer of Adaptive Themes is around at the moment. He hasn't posted anything on Drupal.org for a while anyway.

I read your issue on Adaptive Themes too. Like you I'm starting to learn to theme Drupal. I've been through more than two books and several themes now and it's slow going for me. I've found quite often developers don't get back quickly, and sometimes when they do it's way beyond what I can stretch to understand and use.

What I can tell you is that I'm actually starting to get somewhere with Adaptive Theme and Pixture Reloaded after months of trying with other themes, profiles and distributions. I haven't paid this developer anything, or even been given much individual advice, mainly just used the advice he and others have given in past issues responses. Honestly, I think it's as close to a working-out-the-box (and responsive, colour-able, and with customisable options) experience as you'll find across the Drupal jungle right now - as you seem to have already researched - and the code seems quite logically laid out and seems well commented.

As for your complaint, I honestly empathise. I've hit a wall on a couple of Drupal issues, that, if I was helped with, would allow me to progress projects. But who knows, developers MIA could be sick, travelling, or just taking a break from computers.

Anyway I'd suggest that if you're trying to learn how to develop Drupal then this theme seems a really good stepping stone to me. However, if you're trying to get one site off the ground - and as you've paid for support with no response - then you're probably right complaining and looking elsewhere. Perhaps someone else can recommend a good theme with a developer who gives quick responses.

All the best,
Robin

Robin,

I agree - this is a great looking theme and offers a lot of functionality. So, I dug in and was able to (mostly) resolve my issues (with some kind help from another forum participant).

Title: Avoid this theme » This project may need a new/additional maintainer
Category: support » task
Priority: Normal » Major

People that contribute great stuff tend to be sucked in by paid work ;-)

There's always the possibility to become maintainer via the unsupported projects process.
