Hi there,

Thank you for project: it's really great to use Bootstrap power with Drupal. But may I ask someone with relevant experience which (dis-)advantages Drupal Bootstrap have compared to Omega/AT (and their siblings)? Mean comparing "weight" (fast/slow), better/worst "responsiveness", Drupal compatibility, Commerce (and generally 3-rd party modules) support? Didn't mind to start holy war here, just seeking an advice for new project base theme selection from someone with personal experience in both Bootstrap and Omega/AT. Similar question have been asked "in a wild" and could be googled but I wasn't able to find weighted/detailed/community-commented comparison.

Thank you in advance!

Honestly, I'm not entirely sure anyone really has stats between them all. You might have to do them yourself. Although, I would imagine it would be painstakingly time consuming to do so. Especially given all the different regions and configuration it would take. I wrote a blog post partially about my decision to use Bootstrap.

I think for me, the main decision to use Bootstrap stems from wanting to keep the overbearing feature creeps (and regions) to a minimum. A lot of the base-themes you mention have (over time) become extremely complex to manage. I used to use and praise Omega highly and perhaps it's still useful in some use-cases, but that decision is ultimately very subjective in nature.

Yes, other base-themes are very "powerful" and "flexible", but I don't think that's really the issue. Given the amount of time it requires to manage them, that kind of out-weighs any other issues I might have regarding them.

What I like about Bootstrap (and the performance aspects, in regards to packaged CSS and JS) is that the actual framework is managed by the Bootstrap team itself. All we're doing here is bridging the gap between Drupal and an existing (and well known/used) framework.

This base-theme also utilizes BootstrapCDN, so I think that right there gives you more bang for you buck, as far as performance goes, if you're OK with the default Bootstrap "look and feel".

That coupled with the minimum "features" this base-theme provides help keep it lean and light-weight; so there isn't a lot of overhead in managing the base-theme/sub-theme.

Not sure if this is exactly what you were asking for, but I hope this helps :)

Thank you Mark, very helpful note and clear point. Indeed, all it's about choice between simplicity, lightweight and control on TPL's level (since Base/Foundation) and GUI, "all [js libraries] included" and "rule-'em-all" power of Omega/AT. But I'm wondering are there any objective (mean free from individual/personal preferences) advantage one solution might have from another? For example, performance measurements (just from top of the head as one of things which could be evaluated fast) or, say, out-of-box compatibility with Commerce. I've doubts if such comparison exists but "ask no question if need no answer".

Doubt if such comparison exists

I am inclined to agree with you as I am unaware of any such stats.
